Marc Webb - Director Research

Marc Webb has caught my eye with his work such as "500 Days Of Summer" and some of his music videos which he has directed. He has only recently started to direct filmography, however, I like his quirky style that can be seen within the music video 'Better' - Regina Spektor. He has been a music director for over 10 years, hence why there is currently only one film which he has directed.

Within the teaser trailer for "500 Days Of Summer" I saw that he has made it so that it feels as if we are following two characters; without seeing anybody else who is in the film. I very much like the idea of basing my teaser trailer on one, maybe two characters - as it helps to tell a story within such a short time period.

What I like about the trailer "500 Days Of Summer"
Along with the teaser trailer for "(500) days of summer, comes a caption. The caption reads "Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn't. This post modern love story is never what we expect it to be -- It's thorny yet exhilarating, funny and sad, a twisted journey of highs and lows that doesn't quite go where we think it will. When Tom, a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic, is blindsided after his girlfriend summer dumps him, he shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days "together" to try to figure out where things went wrong. His reflections ultimately lead him to finally rediscover his true passions in life." When we then go on to watch the trailer, what we have just read seems as if this id not for the same thing.

The reason why it works as a teaser trailer is because it is somewhat unclear as to what it means by summer, as we follow a guy and a girl, but also it is filmed in L.A - which is deemed to be a nice weathered place.

It says near the start of the teaser trailer "500 days of Los Angeles, of promises" which immediately throws the audience of balance, as they are somewhat confused as to what 'summer' is.

The target audience for this film could easily be women - but also men. The film tells a story about love - but from the mens side. The slightly indie, yet RomCom style suites to everybody from any age.

A review (from a man's point of view)
Rare is the summer film that seems to understand something about me besides my love of things blowing up. I think guys at a certain period in their life will connect with this film mere hours after seeing it and will want to – and should – see it again. There are things in this movie that hit on a very real emotional undercurrent, and there aren’t a lot of movies that try to talk to guys like He’s Just Not That Into You was made to talk to women. I have my Summer and chances are you have your Summer too.

Why we are ideally meant to feel teased
The director, Marc Webb, has used a very pretty - yet quirky actress (Zoeey Deschanel) to make the audience understand what the character of Tom is going through. Her beautiful face, thick fringe and fashion make us feel like how Tom feels - which is the whole point of the film. To see where he went wrong. The trailer immediately gives us questions which we can only really answer by seeing the film. This is why we feel teased.
